A tribute to the Wizarding World

So, as most readers would know, today, 31st July is the birthday of the celebrated fictional [though, I firmly believe that Hogwarts exists and I am still awaiting my letter :-p] character, Harry Potter. Not only is it Harry Potter’s birthday, it is also J.K. Rowling, the series’ acclaimed author’s birthday. And honestly, I have been getting restless to blog about my Harry Potter journey.

I have been one of the last people in my friend circle to read Harry Potter; I was much too attached to Enid Blyton and Ruskin Bond. But, when I picked up the novels upon the insistence of many of my friends, I loved it!

I was around 10 and it was summer vacation. I finished the entire series in 8 days. I would read one book per day [with the exception of The Order of the Phoenix which took me a couple of days.] and then wonder how I didn’t pick it up before. My absolute favourite novel is The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Half-blood Prince trails very closely behind it. I, however, hated The Chamber of Secrets and till this date I dread reading that book.

And then, I watched the movies one by one. And turns out, they are absolutely rubbish. Like, they didn’t cover half the things that are there in the books. The people who watch the movies don’t know about Winky the house elf. They do not know about Lupin and Tonks’ child. Hell, they don’t even know about half the spells used in the book. They have even gotten Harry’s eye colour wrong! Well, I could go on and on about this topic but I will let it rest here.

After I read the books, I became a full fangirl. I started asking my parents to buy Harry Potter merchandise [I don’t have any till date 😭😭] and I even crafted a wand for myself!

My favourite character in the book series is Sirius Black. I don’t even know why but I simply love him unconditionally. He died an untimely death and I regret it very very much. I was close to tears when I read that part; I reread it quite some times, unable to believe that this tragedy actually happened.

So, since then I reread the novels around 7 to 8 times [I must have read The Prisoner of Azkaban at least 13 to 14 times] I have never gotten bored of them and in fact I am about to reread them soon.

Feel free to share special moments about your Harry Potter journey in the comments section!

Toodles! 👋👋

P.S. It is also Neville Longbottom’s birthday today!
