The Selection

Hey Guys! Over the last five days, I read an amazing series- The Selection, written by Kiera Cass. It is a pentalogy and I absolutely loved it. It’s genre varies from YA Romance to dystopia. It is a light, quick read, despite the fact that it consists of five novels. The five novels are:
1. The Selection
2. The Elite
3. The One
4. The Heir
5. The Crown
These novels are set in the future, after the Third and Fourth World Wars.
Blurb:
To be chosen to participate in The Selection is the chance of a lifetime.Thirty five girls compete against each other to win the heart of the prince, in this case Prince Maxon- the gorgeous heir to the throne.
But America Singer wasn’t happy when she was Selected. She doesn’t want to behind her secret love, Aspen, who is a caste below her. She doesn’t want the crown. But when America reaches the palace, she realizes that she might want another future for herself, unlike the one she has always dreamed of….
The first three books continue on the above story line. However, the fourth and fifth book is about Prince Maxon’s daughter, Eadlyn’s Selection and how she won over her subjects.
I loved the first three books. The proportions of romance, dystopia and friendship were perfect and that is probably what made the series so amazing. Admittedly, the second book was a little stretched, but it was very well written and that compensated for its length.
There were quite a few characters that I didn’t like. I hated Aspen- America’s secret boyfriend. I didn’t really like him even when America was at her home and I didn’t like him when he ended up at the palace. I also didn’t like Anne, one of America’s maids. I also disliked Kriss and Celeste- two of America’s competitors.
I absolutely loved America. She was really sweet and kind at heart. She might come across as a little uptight in the beginning but I can guarantee that she will grow on you. And, I adored Maxon to a limitless extent. He was really kind and patient. And the fact that he looked really nice is the icing on the cake.
I also loved Marlee, who was America’s best friend in the palace. She was so loyal and faithful that one could not but love her.
The best kind of love story is when best friends turn lovers and that is exactly what happened in the first three books and that is also a reason why I love them.
The last two books, on other hand, were… not that great. I didn’t like the fourth book at all, especially, the first half. I found Princess Eadlyn to be a stuck-up person, at least in the fourth book. The fifth book was not all that bad.
In these two books too, there were characters that I liked and those I didn’t. There were three suitors that are worth mentioning. These guys were absolutely lovely. They were Henri, Hale and Kile. They were really sweet. I also liked Erik/Eikko, Henri’s translator [Henri was not fluent in English; his mother tongue is Finnish.] The characters from the previous books appeared as well and they performed as well as before.
TBH, I didn’t like Eadlyn a lot. I loathed Jack, another of Eadlyn’s suitors, endlessly and I hope that he dies a excruciatingly painful death.
There were also many moments, especially in the first three books, where I had to laugh out loud. The fourth and fifth books were slightly more intense.
I kinda think that the fourth and fifth books were added as an afterthought, because they were absolutely unexpected.
That is all I would like to say about the books. It is a must-read especially for those who love YA Romance, books that involve royalty and a bit of sci-fi [dystopia].
My Rating:
The Selection: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Elite: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The One: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
The Heir: ⭐⭐⭐
The Crown: ⭐⭐⭐.75
I honestly hope that all of my viewers read this series. If you have already read it, how do you think it is?? Do let me know all of your views in the comments!

I loved the series too. But yeah, I didn’t like America’s old BF. Wow, we have read the same books.
