Hey Guys! I just finished Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M. McManus, one of my favourite authors. I have read her other two books- One of Us is Lying and One of Us in Next and I loved them. So, naturally I had a lot of expectations from this book. And, thankfully enough, it did not fail to disappoint me.
So, as you might know, I am partaking a Taylor Swift Read-a-thon and I am to read 8 books in a month. The prompt for this book is A Place In This World: Read a book set in a country outside your own.
Blurb (from Goodreads):
Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery’s never been there, but she’s heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.
The town is picture-perfect, but it’s hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone’s declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.
Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she’s in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous–and most people aren’t good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it’s safest to keep your secrets to yourself.
Where do I even start? The characters were perfect. It is really difficult to write from the POV of two characters and even more so when one of the characters is of the opposite gender. All of them were so coolly projected and you could see what was going on.
The background, the plot-building, everything was super perfect. There was just one flaw- the start was a bit slow.
And the answer to the mystery, one could not see it coming. Like ever. It was like so unexpected.
I literally have no words for this book, except that it is worth a read. Karen M. McManus is a really underrated author and everyone who has read her work, appreciates it. So, I would suggest that you check her books out. After reading this, I really cannot wait for her fourth book- The Cousins to come out now!
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
