Hello Everybuddy! It’s been such a long time since I have written a book review and there is a perfectly viable reason for this- I was rereading the Harry Potter series. I hadn’t read it this year and it was time for my annual reread anyway, so I got to reading it, mid-December.
Then, according to Amazon, I couldn’t order this book until 20th December, so I had to wait for the date to come. I wanted to read the paperback of this book as it was written by one of my favourite authors- Karen M. McManus. So, I ordered the book on 21st, it came on 22nd, I began reading it on 23rd and finished it on 24th. That is how good the book is. I was so excited to read it, that I didn’t even keep it in quarantine as I usually do!
Blurb (from Goodreads):
Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah Story are cousins, but they barely know each another, and they’ve never even met their grandmother. Rich and reclusive, she disinherited their parents before they were born. So when they each receive a letter inviting them to work at her island resort for the summer, they’re surprised… and curious.
Their parents are all clear on one point—not going is not an option. This could be the opportunity to get back into Grandmother’s good graces. But when the cousins arrive on the island, it’s immediately clear that she has different plans for them. And the longer they stay, the more they realize how mysterious—and dark—their family’s past is.
The entire Story family has secrets. Whatever pulled them apart years ago isn’t over—and this summer, the cousins will learn everything.
This book was amazing! It had my heart hammering and beating so hard at times, that I thought that it might drop into my hand at any moment!
The characters were all very well portrayed. There is one thing though, Milly seemed extremely bitchy at first, but then she improved. I mean, I don’t know if it was because of Jonah, but she did improve. Aubrey was my favourite cousin of all three. She was extremely sweet and reliable.
The plot, what do I even say about it! It was per-fect. I couldn’t have possibly seen the end coming, like ever! At first, though, it was a bit slow, but the pace the book picks up after the first seventy pages is impeccable. I am in awe of this book.
I was so impressed by this book that I spammed one of my friends at 1:30 a.m. in the night! She is kinda used to it though.
In case it isn’t clear- I would recommend this book to all YA mystery lovers. If you haven’t read other works by Karen M. McManus, PICK THEM UP RIGHT NOW!
So that’s all for today! Have you already read the book? Do you intend to pick it up soon? (I hope you do) Let us chat in the comments!
