Hey everyone! Since I just have one paper left, and that is on Monday, I decided to take a hiatus from my hiatus (Haha) and sneak in this quick post! I had this post in my drafts for like at least three weeks, I just had to tweak it a bit! I know, I know I will be back on Monday, but I couldn’t resist dropping this post in!
So, as you may or may not remember, in January, I asked y’all to share your weird reading habits. So many of you responded and I am so exhilarated about that! Thank you everyone for making this post at least go towards success!
Let’s get started!
Note:
1.The habits are in italics and my reaction is in normal font.
2. This is just a fun thing and I don’t mean to offend anyone! If I say something that you feel is rude or offensive, please let me know in the comments and I will definitely change the bit. Forgive me if I make any mistakes!!
3. Also, I have linked to a post of the person who’s weird reading habit it was, but I haven’t mentioned their name or anything, because I promised anonymity. So, please don’t click on those links!

Number 1:
Hmm… I like to read late at night. I honestly don’t like reading any time before then.

Hey, I am the same! I mean, I don’t mind reading in the day, but there is just something so calming about reading at the end of the day. Almost everyone I know reads before bed, so I don’t think that’s very weird.
Number 2:
This isn’t usual but it happens at times-twirling of pages. I often end up twirling a whole page and then regretting it.

Twirling pages? Doesn’t that like hurt the page or something? And like how do you read? I mean, okay that is really weird!! Like, I know if I twirl the page, I will end up tearing at least half of them! But, I guess, you are practiced😂
Number 3:
My weird reading habit is having to read every single book cover to cover. Seriously, I go through every single blank page before/after the book, the Q&A, the discussion questions, the dedication, the acknowledgements… you get the point.

This is something not so uncommon, you know? I mean, I used to think I was the only person who didn’t do this, but apparently, there are people who think this is weird!! And the fact that you are not the only person to have said this is their weird habit, speaks volumes- so hey, this is not weird!
Number 4:
I just read fast. Really fast. It’s bad.

Hey, it’s no bad thing! I mean, if I was gifted with superfast reading abilities, I wouldn’t be complaining and I would be busy reading up all the books in the world, honestly!
Number 5:
My weird reading habit used to be mouthing the words when reading them, I couldn’t read if I didn’t mouth the words, felt too hard until 2 years ago lol.

There was this classmate of mine, who did this too! I mean, everyone in my class who has had trouble reading stuff, did this. Not that you had trouble reading stuff when you were a kid. At least, I don’t think you did. Gah, I messed up.
Number 6:
I sometimes zone out and then have to read a whole chapter again.

Okay…. but then like if you zone out, then I am sure you can pick up from where you zoned out, right? I mean, you don’t need to reread the entire chapter, right? Because, when I am distracted, I zone out too, but I don’t end up reading the entire chapter….
Number 7:
My weird reading habit is that I always fiddle with the tape, spine, or any other SLIGHTLY protruding thing my fingers can find to mess with. I’m slowing destroying so many of my books!! This is less weird, and more sorrowful in my opinion.

Aww, don’t do that to your books! You know, if you feel so restless while reading, then just keep something else, to fiddle with while reading. But then, if you don’t mind, then it’s okay.
Number 8:
My weird bookish habit is that when I’m reading a physical copy of a book, my mind will simultaneously be calculating what percent I am through the book as I read. I usually read on my kindle which tells me the percentage so it just makes me feel better to do this? Not sure why!

Aha, so we have a Math nerd amidst us! Well, I have to say while I definitely don’t calculate the percentage, I do subtract the total number of pages by the ones I am left with to figure out how much time it will take for me to finish the book:)!
Number 9:
I like to read lying down either on the couch or on the bed with my body turned to the side. When reading while lying down on the couch, I like to prop one leg up the back rest. Wonder if anyone does this too.

Well, I read on the bed or the couch too. I can’t turn on one side, otherwise my headphones will break :(. And well, that couch position is definitely something😂😂
Number 10:
I used to have the habit of looking at the last page first before starting a book. I didn’t mind spoiling the ending. But now I stopped doing that!

Why? Just why? Why would you spoil the ending to yourself? Well, on one hand, it must be really good to prevent more trauma, but on the other, you are taking out all the fun of the book! Well, I am happy to see you stopped doing that!
Number 11:
Reading in the middle of doing essays or online exams to reward myself for writing a few sentences!

Okay, that is seriously smart, but then if that is an exam, won’t you get less time to write? I mean, I do that too sometimes, in the middle of homework and stuff, but I am afraid I might not be able to get my exam done in the allotted time!
Number 12:
Literally talking myself into staying up all night to finish a book even if I have to get up early for work the next day

I am 100% sure, that every bookworm has done this at least once in their lives! So, yes, you are very normal!!! I mean, I usually get done with my day’s work at midnight, but I end up reading till like 1 or 2. So, yep, that’s normal!!
Number 13:
I just read the ending of the book first. Oh, and I also google the deaths of that book, so yeah. I know everything that happens even before reading the complete book like for example, I knew Dumbledore would die when I was reading POA itself! And I also knew Snape was NOT Voldy’s supporter!

Like, why would you do that? I mean, I guess it’s a very good way to prevent getting traumatised, but still! That spoils the fun of reading, doesn’t it? Well, I guess, you love the journey much much much more than the destination!
Okay, so y’all gave an overwhelming response (not that I am complaining!), but the post would have been super long if I tried to fit all of them in here! It is already over a thousand words, and I am still left with half of them!! So, I will react to the reading habits of the rest of you, next time, I promise!!
If you haven’t already, click here and comment your weird reading habits!!! Who knows, we might even have a part three for the post!!! I hope you enjoyed reading the post, though!!
I don’t know why I do that. My friends started spoiling HP. I knew so many things already. What I thought was, I already know so many things, I’ll just know a few more extra spoilers. 😂Like,….
I’m not able to explain … forget it😅😂🤣

Wow some of these are quite funny habits. I think something I do is when I’m reading a chapter of a book I skip to tgemsrsrt of the next chapter to see how many pages I have left to read…

Oh I see! Yeah, actually I am pretty sure someone else mentioned this too😂
Thanks so much for reading!

I’ve done some math while reading too but to feel accomplished with what I’ve gotten done that day. Goodreads also helps when I track my reading on there. 🙂

Great post! Also regarding reading in an exam, it was a take-home exam and I had 72 hours and definitely did not need it. I wasn’t worried about running out of time, as I still had two days left!

HAH thank you for your support of my unintentional speed-reading
thing is I miss details a lot so I end up going back a few pages more often than I’d like to admit kdjhksjfh

I can’t understand some of these habits. And as a reader I am shocked that some people actually do this. 😖😖
Reading the last page and spoiling the ending/ character deaths- i mean what is the point of even reading the book in the first place. Talk about creating suspense!
I also do zone out sometimes, always go back and reread that text

I love this. It made me feel normal and sane cos I do some of this stuff too! Ha… I do the whole inner calculator thing when I read a print book. I used to mouth when I read too. This was a fun post.

Twirling the pages, I- *screams in shock*
I read really fast too, IDK why? I think it’s because of the excitement I get when I’m reading something really good- I need to read the entire book, even if its 500 pages- in 40 minutes or less (I don’t know if that’s fast or not, please enlighten me in the comments lol)…
Ayy, I zone out while reading so many times; it’s part of my routine at this point!! Ah yes, the couch and I are BFFs’ it’s time the world knew 😌
Also, I always look at the last page of the book too.. I read the first chapter, and then my patience gets exhausted, and so I read the last page- the last chapter- i read all of the ending, then smile in satisfaction and then read from the start😂😂
AND, it’s so nice to see someone other than me using gif’s in every paragraph😏😏

Wait you can read 500 pages in 40 minutes? Damn, give me your skills!!!
😂😂👍👍
Why, I ask you why?!?!!
Ah, well, I don’t use so many normally, tbh

Hmm, IDK? The spoiler checking has become a habit by now, and even if I don’t remember the plot- I remember the endings for suree, It’s too hard to quit that habit now xDD
Also, thanks for the compliment xDD, I love my reading skills for sureeee

As for the person who twirls their pages, if this habit bothers you, maybe try having a fidget toy (like a fidget cube) or hold something? I know holding a plushie helps me with fidgeting sometimes (specifically squishmallows for some reason..)
BUT if this habit doesn’t bother you do whatever with your books. Just be sure not to lose any important pages

Ahh this post was just fabulous Riddhi! I loved your replies to them and the GIFs were on point! Can definitely relate to persuading myself to read for just a few more hours in the middle of the night haha!! Will be looking forward to part 2! 😆

I loved this!! It’s interesting reading everyone’s habits and seeing the gif you used in response 😂 (Thanks for including my weird old habit!!)
Also, I agree with the person who calculates the percentage of the book they’ve read, I do that sometimes 😄
