Book Review | Sunkissed by Kasie West

This book reminded me why I love Kasie West so much.

Hey everyone! It’s been such a long time (probably a month) since I have posted a book review, because I was in a huuuuge slump. But then I read one of my favourite books- Fangirl, and then on 4th May, my very favourite author Kasie West’s new book came out, and I just picked this book yesterday, at night, and here I am, posting a review, and hopefully out of my slump.

I would have probably forgotten about this book, had Instagram and my friend Tiction not reminded me. But, thankfully they exist, and yay, I am so glad I read the book! After Moment of Truth, which came out in 2020, I wasn’t so sure if I would like it much, but I loved it! Plus, the cover is so different from her normal covers. Let’s get to the

synopsis!

Synopsis:
After being betrayed by her best friend, Avery is hoping for a picture-perfect summer. Too bad her parents have dragged her and her sister to a remote family camp for the entire summer. And that’s not even the worst part. Avery also has to deal with no internet, a cute but off-limits staff member, and an always-in-her-face sister.

But what starts as a disaster turns into a whirlwind summer romance as Avery embarks on an unexpected journey to figure out what she truly wants and who she wants to be.

Plot:

A sweet, summery romance to get through the excruciatingly hot summers of India? Give it to me!!!
To be honest, the plot was awesome. I mean, in this modern age, imagining life without the internet is nearly impossible. And Kasie West showed that difficulty in a beautiful way. Via the entire camp setting she somehow told us that life without the internet is not that bad, if not better. I mean, we used to have school camps, where we had to live without the internet for 4-5 days and I used to love it! I am not saying the internet is bad, but I am saying that an internet detox once in a while is necessary.
Wow, that took a detour real quick.
Coming back to the plot, it had the perfect setting, and the entire music thing added a very very very good feel to it. And I felt when Avery said that if she has music all the time, it’s like a soundtrack to life. I agree with it 100%.

Characters:

The characters were very well portrayed too. I mean, Avery from the beginning seemed like a person who liked to be in a comfort zone- which is not a bad thing, but still. Through Avery, Kasie West also told us to step out of our comfort zone sometimes, and just have fun.
Brooks was super sweet too! I mean, I don’t have a crush on him (Shocker, right?), but I loved him in the story. His and Avery’s scenes alone gave me such a happy feeling!
And then there’s Lauren, who is a ray of sunshine. I hated it when she …. did a thing, but other than it, she was really good.
All the other subsidiary characters- Kai, Levi, Maricela, Ian etc., were very well portrayed too. Shoutout to Maricela for being one of my favourite characters!
Also, I don’t know why but it seemed as though Kasie West picked the names from books I love. Kai from The Lunar Chronicles, Levi from Fangirl. I mean, I don’t know, but for me, Levi and Kai will always remind me of those books.

Writing Style:

This is my favourite part of all Kasie West books. They always so humourous, and addictive, that one can’t help but fall in love with them!

To be honest, this is one of my favourite books by Kasie West!
