Reviewing old favourite reads! | A collab ft. Evin @A Curly Sue’s Ramblings

Hey everyone! Welcome or welcome back to my blog!

So, a few weeks ago, Evin @A Curly Sue’s Ramblings came to me with collab idea, where we would review books that we loved when we were young(er). I’ve reviewed five of my favourite childhood reads on her blog, so do make sure you go and check them, and follow her blog for amazing content!

Let’s get to Evin’s favourite reads! (Normal font- Evin’s reviews, italics- my responses)

1. Thea Stilton & Geronimo Stilton

Without a doubt, these were definitely my favorite book series around 3-4 years ago. I still read them sometimes, but I mostly outgrew them. I like that the Thea sisters always had an adventure to solve in every story, and violet was my favorite character~ AND the cheese/mouse puns.. are iconic. I didn’t like the Geronimo Stilton series as much, though.

Yes, I agree. As an appreciator of puns- one of the best kinds of humour, I agree the cheese/mouse puns were wild (Get it? Mice are wild, it’s a pun… again. Sorry, my humour is broken)

2. The Pearl Earring (from the Haunted Museum series)

This was one of the first horror/mystery books I read, and I usually don’t read books in that genre. But, I ended up LOVING this book, it was truly riveting. It had a fair amount of suspense among the adventure brought to life with this series – I’d say this is a great intro to the horror/mystery genre for tween readers?

Oooh, well, reading all those blood-thirsty horrors, wasn’t and still isn’t in my *blood* (Look at that, another pun, I am on fire), so no comments.

3. The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe

I watched this part of the chronicles of Narnia when I was little, and it used to be one of my favorite fantasy movies ever ~ I read the book a while later, and I really liked it! Especially that it’s not too complex, and it’s suitable for any age. My favorite characters were Aslan and Lucy.

*looks around, abashedly* I…. I haven’t read this novel. I know, I know, how can I have not read these? I think I have a copy of this- won it as an award or something, but I haven’t read it.

4. Enid Blyton’s short stories

I used to have these collections of short stories by Enid Blyton, and my school library has a lot of her books, so I read a lot of those. the island of adventure series, the famous five, and the faraway tree are some of my favorites. I still read her stories, they are so well written and nostalgic, in a way.

YES, THESE WERE LIT.

5. Percy Jackson & the Greek gods

A collection of short stories of greek gods, narrated by Percy Jackson. This got me into Greek mythology, and this book was just so captivating! I’d definitely recommend this book if you haven’t already read it. Other than this, I’ve not read the other books from the series – but I’m planning on doing that soon.

Ironically, I’ve read the PJO series, Heroes of Olympus, Magnus Chase, Trials of Apollo, but I haven’t read these. They are on my TBR, but not my biggest priority, you know. But yeah, like you, Riordanverse got me into Greek mythology too!

And that was it for today’s post! Did you enjoy it? Are any of these your favourite childhood books? Let me know in the comments, y’all!
Also, go check the post in which I review my favourite childhood reads on Evin’s blog!

  5. THEA AND GERONIMO!!!!! I feel like Geronimo was definitely the funnier series of the two in my opinion, but Thea’s series was a little more mature? I honestly assciate those books with the game Poptropica because they both made up a large amount of my childhood💀

  6. Narnia and Enid Blyton were huge parts of my childhood as well! I can’t believe you haven’t read Narnia, Riddhi – I was hugely obsessed with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe back in the day 🤣 I also loved Percy Jackson, of course, but I was already about 11 when I started reading them. I’m so old they didn’t exist (or were virtually unknown) when I was younger, you see 😅😂

  8. I loved Geronimo and Thea Stilton! And my mom didn’t like me reading it because I would use the made-up words of the books 😂.
Ah Enid Blyton! I love her. Malory Towers and The Naughtiest Girl series are my favourite.
The Chronicles Of Narnia series is A-W-E-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I’m pretty sure it was THE series before Harry Potter!
    Loved the post! ❤️✨
