Monthly Wrap-Up | May 2022

May had wings. As it flew.

I am not even kidding I am exhausted.

Which is probably why I forgot to greet you guys.

Hey everyone! Welcome or welcome back to my blog!

Welcome back to another monthly episode of Riddhi’s Monthly Rambles. To be honest, I kinda have a lot but not a lot at the same time.

Firstly, three of my board examinations are over, and I think I did okay in them. Super anxious for the last two, since I’ve not prepared as much as I can (until May 26th at the very least). However, this ends on 7th June! Woo hoo! I have so much planned for the week after the boards- I am probably gonna get a haircut and maybe just maybe if my mom allows, I’ll get my hair coloured a vibrant colour- I don’t know which colour and what part of my hair. Hopefully, I’ll also finally get to watch Dr. Strange as well, if it’s not out of the cinemas by then. I also have plans to meet up with a friend- I haven’t met her in about two years, and we were sort of fighting before that, so it’s been a while, and I am excited! Although the plan isn’t completely final, and we may not end up meeting on the designated date, we most probably will meet sometime soon!

I’m also going to meet my cousins after a whopping three years! All of us may not get together for a while after now, with colleges and jobs, so I am looking forward to having fun for what may be the last time in a while! Again this isn’t final either!

Other than that, I am going to read Heartstopper, watch Heartstopper, hopefully gush over Heartstopper, put in a lot of posts for the blog, because God knows I haven’t been my best blogger self lately.
That being said, I still won’t be completely back since I still have some exams left.

Wow, I just said so much about June, and nothing about May.

Well, May was a rocky month. I hit a rough patch due to personal issues in the middle of the month, but other than that, most stress was related to exams. I got little sleep in the first twenty days so I ended up sleeping a lot in the last few days.

Also, very random, but everyone who lives in India- try Rage Coffee- it’s flavoured and it tastes so good! Like it’s not ready made packaged coffee, it’s coffee beans! I’ve tried like one flavour- Creme Caramel, and it tastes SO good!

Also, for anyone who’s going through a hard time, try sending a happy moment from your day to a friend, or telling someone in your family or writing it in your journal. Again, it’s random, but I tried doing it this month with a friend, and it helps. It might sound silly or whatever, but it reminds you of the tinier joys in life, and it helps.

Ooh, also, so I discovered this really sick beat and I’m trying to make some music on it, and I’ll try writing lyrics for the beat too! I mean, poetry and song writing aren’t that far apart, are they?

I also cooked pakodas from scratch this month. It’s not difficult to make them, but it had been a while since I made a proper dish from scratch, and well, cooking stuff soothes me!
For those of you who do not know what pakodas are, basically, you make a medium consistency paste of gram flour, or ‘Besan’ as we call it in Hindi and add some spices to it. Then you take a vegetable of your choice or bread, and you coat it in the paste and fry it. I love potato and bread pakodas- they be tasty!!

I usually break the bread into even smaller pieces, because it’s easier that way.
You can have them with chutney, but I love to have them with chaat masala!

Hmm, dosas last month, pakodas this month. All in favour of me introducing a monthly wrap up food special paragraph, say aye!

Blogging wise, this month had bad stats, probably owing to the poor quality of my posts. Sadly, I don’t expect this to improve in June either.

Also, there was this spam comment I got this month, which said ‘I Can’t Hear You’, and I was like ??? It’s a blog post, you’re not supposed to hear me??? I’d attach proof, but I think I might have accidentally deleted the comment😭😭

That being said, let’s get into an in-depth wrap-up of the month!

P.S.- For those of you wondering- that was a 681 word introduction. Last month’s was 650 words. I-

Books I Read This Month:

May was a slow reading month. I ended up finishing seven books though!

  1. Dead End Girls by Wendy Heard
  2. How to be the Best Third Wheel by Loridee de Villa
  3. Beauty and the Besharam by Lillie Vale
  4. In the Limelight by Why Don’t We (YES, WDW HAS WRITTEN A BOOK AND YES I READ IT FINALLY)
  5. XOXO by Axie Oh
  6. Places We’ve Never Been by Kasie West
  7. Two Truths and a Lie by April Henry

You can head over to my Goodreads to check all the reviews out!

Movies and TV shows I watched this month:

I watched just two movies this month- a satirical comedy on the Indian political system called Dasvi. It’s a nice, funny movie, which gives a great message but in a comic way, and Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, which tbh, wasn’t that awesome.

As for TV shows, I completed The Big Bang Theory, finally (Raj should not have ended up alone) and two seasons of Gossip Girl. In seven days. In the middle of my boards. I was going to start the third season, but thought better of it, and am restraining myself until after my boards.

AND I WATCHED STRANGER THINGS S4!! To be honest, it has a lot of storylines going on altogether, and that does make it fast paced but also very discrete and scattered. Like I loved episodes 1 and 2 and 6 and 7 (7th is my favourite!!) but honestly it got a little boring for me in the middle. Vol II really has gotta be something though, because the season is not quite yet at par with the others, for me at least. Like it’s got A LOT of loose threads, and they must be strung together very well for S4 to be the best. But I definitely am intrigued to see Vol II and cannot wait for July 1st!

P.S.- I totally did not binge it in a day and I totally did not do it when I was supposed to be studying. Also, I found Victor Creel scarier than Vecna. But the plot twist oh my god. Okay, I am not spoiling anything, but anyone who’s watched it contact me to discuss it!!

Songs I Heard This Month:

The playlist is the same as my April one, but with about 15 additional songs. I just checked- 18 additional songs. I discovered a new artist- Johnny Orlando, and I love three of the four songs I’ve heard by him- What If I Like You, Daydream and Adelaide.

ALSO, JUST FRIENDS IS SO GOOD, OH MY GOD, THE BEAT! AND HOW DO YOU LOVE SOMEBODY SOUNDS SO GOOD! Well, this was in reference to Why Don’t We. Awesome band. Go listen to them. Both these songs have been released this month. Awesome songs.

Also, I’ve heard like two songs from Harry’s House- Boyfriends, Love of my Life (besides As it Was obviously), and Love of my Life is such a good song!!

I also discovered this new artist- Johnny Orlando, and he’s got such a good voice! I love Daydream, Adelaide and (What If) I told you I like you by him- they’re great songs with sick beats!

Anyway here’s the link to the playlist:

Since exam season’s around as well, I had another motivational songs playlist, which you can find below!

It has a lot of Hindi songs, but these can really help you pump up for your challenges!

My favourite blog posts of the month:

Honestly, my favourite blog post of the month is the Discussion Post I did on the Pros and Cons of Book Tours and Creating Bookish Memes (Part IV) None of the others particularly stood out.

My Favourite Posts Froms Around the Blogosphere:

Like last month, I didn’t really blog hop a lot this month, but these are my favourite posts!

  1. Mint @Mint Loves Books did a wonderful discussion post on why she feels uncomfortable with OwnVoices books!
  2. Pooja @Lifesfinewhine did a post talking about 5 blog posts you can do, should you ever run out of ideas!
  3. Jawahir @The Never Ending Chronicles of Jawahir the Bookworm created a book tag based on Harry’s House– the album!
  4. Anoushka @Dipped in Ink and Ash @Ink Words and Ash created a monthly meme for writers, called Pretty Deadly Words!
  5. The Orangutan Library completed SEVEN years of blogging and did a post talking about their old reviews and if they still stood by their old opinions!
  6. Naemi @A Book Owl’s Corner did a post confessing some of her evil deeds as a book blogger– it’s an amazing post!

Goals for June:

  1. Write better posts for the blog
  2. Post at least 7 non-blog tour posts
  3. Read at least 10 books, at least two of which should not be ARCs
  4. STUDY!!
  5. Don’t cry over school officially being over.

And that’s it for this month! I can’t believe in 8 days I’ll be like 17.5 years old and just six months before I am like, an adult. I simply cannot process this.

How was your May? What are your plans for June? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I took the pictures from the internet actually😅😅
      Thank you so much!
Ah, well I planned most of them before my boards, and the others are the ones that don’t really take a lot of time to type up, so it all works out!
      Thank you so much!!
      I hope you’ve a great June too!

  4. So glad you’re almost done with exams and only have two more left! Also those pakodas looked so delicious- bread ones are my favourite. I made pakodas for the first time this month after ages too but mine were eggplant ones. 5. I love Riddhi’s Monthly Rambles, so please don’t ever stop giving them to us!! 🤗🥰 Also, this time, I thankfully had the wise forsight to cook and eat dinner before reading your wrap-up, which means I was able to survive the padoka pictures without drooling all over my phone… It was a close call, though!! Seriously, they look delicious! 🤩

I’m sorry your May wasn’t better, though 😥 Unfortunately, I very much relate, so let’s just keep our fingers crossed that the next few months will take a positive turn! I’m definitely wishing you the best of luck for your last exams! 🍀

AND OMG, HEARTSTOPPER AND STRANGER THINGS SEASON 4!!! Trust me, you aren’t the only one who binged them when you really didn’t have the time… I absolutely loved ALL the Stranger Things episodes, though! Basically, I was just so thrilled to be back with these characters and excited about how much of the show was in Russian that I was willing to forgive any scatteredness in the plot – none of that bothered me 😂 And then I managed to guess the One/Vecna twist correctly – although I completely missed the Creel connection until the very last episode 😅 – which made me insanely proud and just made me love the series more 😁 But yeah, I’m so pumped for part two!!!

Also, thanks so much for sharing my post 💙 I’m glad to hear you loved it in spite of all the evil it contained! 😁

    1. Yes, you aren’t getting rid of them anytime soon, haha! I took the pictures from the internet, actually😅😅

I haven’t really watched Heartstoper but yes Stranger things!! One did give me the creeps since the beginning, but I didn’t actually think that he was Vecna!

      Of course!

Hope you’ve a great June Naemi!

      1. Well, I really hope you enjoy Heartstopper when you do get around to it – it’s soooo good, Riddhi! 🤗🥰

And yeah, One also gave me the creeps from the get-go, way more than Vecna… At least I was sure Vecna was evil, but One was quietly creepy and I was just waiting for him to do something scary when I was least expecting it! But that creepiness immediately got me thinking, particularly when I realized that Vecna’s hand movements did look kind of similar to those we’d seen associated with telekinesis… 🤔

A great June to you as well!
