The Mid-Year Freak Out Tag

Hey people! Welcome or welcome back to my blog!

I have succumbed to the peer pressure, and for the first time ever, I am doing the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag! I am super excited, and let’s get right into it!

I’ve read 44 books until now (My goal is 60 books lol, I think I am gonna change it to 72). A lot of them were ARCs, most of the books were Young Adult. Those generic statistics being gotten out of the way, let’s get into the tag!

BEST BOOK(S) YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

Hands down Eliza and her Monsters and Between Shades of Grey!

BEST SEQUEL(S) YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

Hmmm… interesting question.

Well, not really, but I enjoyed #Hatethatboy which is part 2 of the BFFs series. It’s not like wow, or amazing, but I enjoyed it, and honestly, I haven’t really read all that many sequels this year.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO

Oooh, there are so many!

  • Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel
  • Once Upon a K-Prom by Kat Cho
  • How to Fake it in Hollywood by Ava Wilder
  • The Agathas by Kathleen Glasgow
  • Rivals by Katherine McGee
  • I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys
  • The Rumor Game by Dhonielle Clayton, Sona Charaipotra
  • Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez
  • Book Lovers by Emily Henry

I think I’ll stop although I am pretty sure there are many more books on the list!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASES FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

Again, there are so many books that I am waiting for, and all of them sound so good!

  • Seoulmates by Susan Lee
  • When in Rome by Sarah Adams
  • Long Story Short by Serena Kaylor
  • Nothing More to Tell by Karen McManus
  • The Decoy Girlfriend by Lillie Vale
  • Carrie Soto is back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas
  • Well Travelled by Jen DeLuca

Again, I’ll stop.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Everyone who follows me on Goodreads probably knows my answer, and well for those who don’t- THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY. I went in with moderately high expectation, which was a mistake since it’s genuinely one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
Another disappointment was Perks of a Wallflower which I very recently read. I went in with very high expectations since I haven’t heard anyone say anything bad about it, but well.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

XOXO is my answer for this one. I kinda sorta knew I would enjoy it, but I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did. It’s such a sweet novel, and while it’s not a five star read for me, personally, but it genuinely is one of the best YA romance novels I’ve read.

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR NEW TO YOU)

Um, again, there’s a list of new to me authors, I don’t know whether or not they’ve debuted but I guess some of them might have.

  • Erin Stewart
  • Alexene Farol Follmuth
  • Karina Evans
  • Dana Mele
  • Axie Oh
  • Francesca Zappia
  • Ruta Sepetys

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT/RECEIVED THIS YEAR

I’ve definitely bought my fair share of books this year, but honestly, not one name comes to mind? I don’t know, maybe it’s me, lol.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

Here’s to hoping I get rid of my physical TBR! *bursts out laughing*

FAVOURITE BOOK TO MOVIE/TV SERIES ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR

Hmmm, I literally think I might not have seen a good one, or maybe that’s just my bad memory, lol. But I do wanna watch Heartstopper (I know, the horror) and The Summer I Turned Pretty (Yes, despite not having liked the books).

How many books have you read so far in 2022? Which one is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!

P.S.- Yes, we going back to coloured graphics!

  1. Oooo!!
I have no idea, at least 50, probably more. (books ofc)
    Who nominated you?
I am thinking the movie adaptations I have seen are all mysteries and I have seen a bunch so I can’t pick

    1. Ah, I see, that’s awesome!

No one nominated me, but everyone who does this tag leaves an open nomination and like yeah, anyone can do it if they wish to!
      Oooh, I see!

      Thanks for reading Corrie!

  3. I really need to read Ruta Sepetys. I’ve heard such good things about her books!
I think this may be the first time I’ve seen someone say Perks of Being a Wallflower was a disappointment! Pretty much every one raves about it! I’ve never been tempted to pick up that book. To be honest, I don’t really think I would particularly enjoy it either!
So far this year I’ve read 22 books, which I’m happy with 🙂

    1. Ah yes, I’ve read just one of her books, and it’s really good!
I mean, I hadn’t heard anyone bad mouth it either, but when I checked GR, I saw some bad reviews!
      Ah, that’s awesomeeee!!
      Thanks for reading!

  4. I am so proud to see Eliza and Her Monsters topping that list!! 🥰 Though, of course, it doesn’t deserve anything less 😇

And yes, Riddhi, you really need to get a move on with those book-to-screen adaptations! (Particularly Heartstopper 🥰 Like, you CAN’T not watch that show, it is literally the most wholesome thing ever!!) But I guess the most important thing is that you’re caught up on Stranger Things, so I suppose I can forgive you for neglecting other shows because of it…

I’m also happy to hear you liked XOXO way more than I did, and was thrilled to get yet another The Summer I Turned Pretty Rant Seriously, you’re spoiling us! 🤣

    1. Yess!
I know Naemi, but I simply cannot bring myself to read the comics, and I cannot watch the show before doing that! And I cannot bring myself to read them, because I am afraid I’ll be disappointed and then the rest of the world will hate me, lol

      Yess, Stranger Things supremacy!

It might be the last one in a while, so😂😂

Xoxo has been on my tbr for a long time, I’m so glad to see you liked it!
Hope you have a great last half of the year, riddhi 💓

  7. I’ve had Eliza and Her Monsters on my shelf for way too long, I really should get to it soon!

I debated reading The Summer I Turned Pretty books because I watched Season 1 and actually liked it, maybe I’ll just stick to the TV show lol.
