Discussion Post | 3 Popular Books I Do Not Like.

Hey everyone! Today I will be talking about three well-loved book, that I am not the biggest fan off. Please don’t hate me guys! Without further ado, let’s get started!

1. All the Bright Places

Okay, so 99% people I met liked this book, and I did too, when I was new to the genre. But last year when I gave it a reread, it was too much for me. Following are the reasons why I did NOT like this book:

1. Finch: I found Finch to be annoying. I get his circumstances and I understand his fascination with death. But disappearing into nowhere? Dragging a girl into something she doesn’t really want to do? That is just outrageous. He knows that his mother works hard and yet he doesn’t contribute in the house chores or financially. And the fact that he doesn’t share stuff with his family was the last straw. He expects his problems to go away without sharing them with anyone. 
   
2. Violet: Violet was okayish, I guess. I know it can be hard losing a loved one, but the way Violet was dealing with it wasn’t totally correct.
   
3. There was also the fact that high schoolers were being slut shamed. Here are a few quotes from the novel:
   1. “Amanda’s father owns a chain of liquor stores, which is one of the reasons she’s so popular. That and the fact that she puts out.”. Ummmm…. excuse me? Are you sure you are talking about a seventeen year old?
   2. “‘I knew him even better than that.’ Her voice goes slutty.” What is that even supposed to mean?

The only reason I liked this book a little, was its focus on mental health issues, which was also not well handled. But moving on to the next book.

2. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

Everyone I know- and I mean everyone, just raved on and on about this book. And I get it, the plot is super unique. But here are the things that I did not like about it:

1. As I said, I loved the plot- it was a first, I have never heard of such a story. It was unique, good and strong. And I liked the characters and their names. Especially Addie.
   But…. those words failed to enchant me. I just wasn’t captivated by the story, the words actually.
   
2. I felt like the beginning was very weak, and the beginning for me is super important. The end was good though, but I just didn’t feel attached enough to the novel to actually enjoy it very much.

3. The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

Here’s another book which everyone loved and I didn’t. Henceforth are the reasons why:

1. It is really clear that both of them like each other from the beginning. Thorne should have made their feelings opaque if she wanted to write a hate to love story. I mean, come on, nobody has the outfits of the people you work with memorised by heart. That only happens if you really notice that person.
   
2. Lucy was simply annoying. For one thing, nobody acts like they are tipsy when they are sick. Most normal people are irritated when they are sick.
   
3. Once Josh and Lucy accepted that they liked each other, the romance was going a little over the top. Okay, a lot over the top.
   
4. According to the novel, Josh fell in love with Lucy the first time he met her. Instalove and me do not go well.
